So our parliament (or representative council) finally wakes up to the controversial issue of pegging the Bahraini Dinar to the US Dollar, and decides to discuss it, the story made it to the front page of Akhbar AlKhaleej as breaking news.
I finished the following table after a quick browse on nuwab.gov.bh‘s website (the official website of the council) showing the educational background of 15 of the 40 members:

Forgive me for saying this honorable MPs but, I miserable fail to understand how an individual, any individual, would be able to discuss such a controversial and complex issue and give opinions on with educational backgrounds like those above? How would they understand the complications of removing the peg on our economy, on inflation, exports and imports? How could anyone with diploma in internal design, or hawza studies somewhere in Qum lecture us and make decisions on our behalf in issues as sensitive as this!

و اللي لفت نظري من هالقائمة هو عيسى ابوالفتح, وايد كنا نسمع انه خبير في الاقتصاد و التجارة و كان مرشح لتولي رئاسة اللجنة الاقتصادية في المجلس و اخرتها طلع ما عنده شهادات في الاقتصاد بتاتاً

I don’t know how these guys are allowed to put themselves up for the parliament anyway. Such a responsibility, that has a HUGE effect on the economy, country, etc needs to have some sort of minimum standard; ie, minimum age, minimum QUALIFICATIONS, etc etc…this way, we’re just going to have a choice to vote for, either mr. rubbish 1, or mr rubbish 2. what the hell do they know about the dollar peg? or economics in general? i take this issue quite personally so the fact that they’re discussing it is just frustrating. i would love to see the outcome, laugh at it, and then laugh at it again

moodz – generally speaking – there is an exception for everything, you might have people that run huge business empires with no educational background at all, they do not know even how to read !
And I repeat, what I spoke of was in general and does not mean that I am pointing to the parliament..
Whereas regarding people studying tha hawza in Qum, well the Hawza as I have heard about is more like an open University, where in addition to what they study, some specialize in other areas no relating to religion.
Like politics, economy, philosophy ( eastern & western philosophers ), epistemology, astronomy etc. and their writings and books are proof, take for example the book ( Iqtisadona – Our economy ) written by Sayyed Mohammed Baqer Al Sadr… and cases like this are 1 in a Hundred.
Knowledge and experience are not only proven by certificates…

While I agree with you to a certain extent that an educational degree isn’t an indication of knowledge or experience. But, you see, it is one thing to be innovative and creative without an education degree (which I agree on) but I firmly believe it takes little more than being street smart or “of experience” to discuss measures of controlling inflation, interest rates and the future of my kids and yours.
On a separate note, while I don’t mean to question the creditability of the hawza’s in Qum or even those in Bahrain, economics isn’t exactly their piece of cake. I mean people are there to study religion in every possible aspect, just because they are being taught the basics of chemistry, astronomy or even philosophy doesn’t make a graduate of which an expert in any of those subjects but make sure he posses the basic knowledge in which.
The book you mentioned is a very fair example, I have skimmed through it a couple of months ago, while it does exhibit and talk about the Capitalism and Socialism fairly, it’s essence is to concentrate on the Islamic Economic model. Therefore is not very practical and in fact inapplicable in today’s society.
Actually, it has nothing to do with education or knowledge, it has to do with managerial experience. These guys can simply form a special committee or seek the opinion of professionals in areas they have little or no knowledge about instead of blabbering out their idiotic and embarrassing comments.

like you, i’ve decided to split my replies into both english and arabic. Now, considering the PM’s will meet, they will obviously come to the conclusion that unpegging the dollar is the solution to fix all our problems in bahrain, and will start demanding the bahraini govt to do that. however…
اما لفك الربط, يجب على بنوك الخليج المركزية بيع ملبارات الدولارات الموجودة في خزاناتها, و بذلك يفقد الدولار سعره اكثر, و يكون العائد من بيع هذه الدولارات قليل, فتقل قيمة الموجودات الخليجية. ففك الدولار لن يحل المشكلة, كما يردد في المقالات و الجرائد يوم بعد يوم, و كل شخص و اخر يفتي في الموضوع, و نوابنا ماخذين الموضوع مهزلة و اكيد بيصرخون في الشوارع, فكو الدولار و فكو الدولار و كأنهم خبراء. مشكلة التضخم في البحرين اكبر من ربط الدولار فقط, و ما اعتقد ان نواب البحرين يقدرون على فهم وتحليل التفاصيل الدقيقة و طرح حل مقنع
