Ban Rubber Bullets!
he United Nations has suspended the use of rubber bullets in peacekeeping missions around the world, according to a document obtained by The Associated Press on Thursday.
The restriction was imposed following an inquiry into the deaths of two ethnic Albanian demonstrators killed by rubber bullets fired by Romanian police officers serving with the U.N. in Kosovo.
The directive, issued by the U.N.’s department of peacekeeping operations, places a temporary suspension on the “carriage and use of rubber bullets and bean-bag rounds” until further notice. (Full Story Here)
It wasn’t so long ago that rubber bullets took the life of a 24 Year old Bahraini. Mohammed Juma AlShakhori who went into an immediate trauma leading to his death soon after being hit by a “bean bag” bullet in the back of his head.
Rubber bullets and expired tear gas canisters are still being used today all around the kingdom, not only that but the authorities deny using rubber bullets, reject all claims or reports of how dangerous those bullets can be especially when used with poorly trained police forces that don’t aim at mid-waist or knee level but shoot as high up as the head from a close range, and still consider them as the “lowest and safest measure for crowd control”.
But we can’t talk can we?! (Previous Post)
May your soul rest in peace Mohammed, may your soul rest in peace..
Maybe thats why they switched to live ammunition. Seems the rubber bullets were too harmful
Oh come on Ammar, it was only a couple of warning shots fired in the air!
The MOI made it very clear that immense force will be used when officials are in serious life threatening danger, their patrol car was being attacked by moltov cocktails!
Honestly, if officers of the law are in danger, they have every right to retaliate and protect themselves. This isn’t a problem.
The problem occurs when the retaliation precedes the situation where the officers, or anyone else for that matter, is in danger. The problem occurs when weapons are fired without any specific laws governing how they should be fired (ie, do not aim above knees, waist, etc). The problem occurs when the governing body is more interested in keeping situations on the down low than it is in keeping the population safe.
But, as you said, we can’t talk, can we…
