A Breeze of Fresh Air

Submitted by moodz on Wednesday, 17 February 20103 Comments

A breeze of fresh air is the least I could describe the recent disclosure of Spring of Culture 2010 events in its 5th year.

It has been five year since it was launched, amidst all the criticism, the complains, the mockery by the mps and the people alike. It still continued to bring us a unique combination between the best in international with a touch of the local and regional Arabic culture.

أرفض ان اقتنع بأن السبب وراء إستمرار ربيع الثقافة هو مابين السطور و الـ(كلام اللي مايتحكاش).
And would rather want to believe that those perverted imbecilic thoughts some of our mps have previously expressed were in fact forgotten and that we and do not represent the views of the majority of the nation of Bahrain.

A breeze of fresh air is what it is because of what it brings to us.. dances, joy, the entertainment that we desperately need, to prove to us that the country is not under the grip of a Taliban like council that for some reason doesn’t seem to know better, and doesn’t seem to look beyond anything that resembles religion and the religious values.

The events don’t really seem very appealing though, the venues are still the same which is an issue, I still don’t see why they insist on having them in such remote and small venues when there are much better alternatives out there.. most of them events are free which is a plust, new feature this year include bookfair and the workshops.. but that’s about it.

The sad thing is that it didn’t get much support from the private sector apparently, the hefty price tag of BD 700k (US 1.9MM) was beard by the EDB and partly Batelco appearntly.

If there is one person we can thank for this it will be Shaikha Mai, so.. Thank her for putting the effort and making this possible for Bahrain.. I’m not sure I can overlook the irreversible damage she has caused with the #$(*! web censorship campaign she has initiated, and the desperate attempt to ban Dreambox receivers, but yah..

I will be covering whatever events I manage to attend in the SOC, I guess it should be a good comeback for me to the blogging world.. I have decided to change my writing style to be more direct, casual and not very lengthy (unless I specifically intend it to be).. So.. We’ll see how it goes this time!

welcome back my friend, you were missed. I look forward to your coverage.

I agree with you that Shaikha Mai is an inspiration when it comes to cultural events like her excellent work at the Museum, Muharraq and of course the Spring of Culture. But let me differ with you and say that I think although she is good in the cultural and money raising activities, she fails as a Minister of Information; not because of her person, possibly, but because of the rules and regulations and instruction she has to work within.

I think if they split the MoI and she is given the Ministry of Culture, she would do wonders still.

As to the existence of the MoI, you probably already know (and suspect largely agree with) my views.
