You know its Bahrain
When a World Open Beach Volleyball Tournament is being held in a concrete jungle..

Preparations are now in full swing to further extend the horizons of international Beach Volleyball with a SWATCH FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Men’s Open stop at Bahrain’s Formula 1 circuit from 8th-12th May.
FIVB inspectors are currently in Bahrain to assess the viability of this undertaking and ensure that everything is on track for the inaugural event in Bahrain. Although a lot of work remains to be done to ensure a world-class Beach Volleyball event in such a unique setting, initial reports indicate that everything is on the right track. Confirmation of whether the event can go ahead at the Formula 1 track is expected by the end of the month.
As one of the most popular sports at the Olympic Games, Beach Volleyball has proven to be a crowd puller regardless of location and has migrated from its birthplaces on the beaches of Southern California to the heart of great cities such as Paris and Berlin. This year’s World Championships will even be held in the Swiss Alps, as the SWATCH FIVB World Championships come to Gstaad, which has been staging SWATCH FIVB events since 2000. (Source)
The press release dates back to the 9th of March, I’ve already seen the ads for this on those annoying little billboard ads they hang to the street lights and desperately cram every bit of information they can into them.
So a Beach Volleyball tournament, in the Formula 1 Circuit.. interesting..

It is nice to see the 500mil project being utilized for more events around the year and having more international attention to the state of the art facility.
But does any one honestly believe that this is the main and only reason why the track is being used for this event and not an actual beach?
I personally think the one and only reason is that we “don’t have a single beach” that is ready for an event of that scale, no infrastructure, no electricity, no easy access, no stands, no nothing.
but then again, where else in the world would you find an Island with no beaches, and a country that leave %60 of the land un-used but re-claim all the shores.
Eyad the Great, you hit the nail on the head. I have been living in Bahrain for a year now and have yet visited a beach…it’s such a shame!
But then again if there were public beaches with women and men wearing swimming attire, the MP’s would be the first to complain just as they have done with the Spring of Culture.
omg this is dark comedy.
why couldn’t it be the women’s open?
Joker, if it was, all the MP’s would be against it, I know you’d be all over the ticket both tho haha.
