Blood for Oil

Submitted by moodz on Tuesday, 7 November 20068 Comments

Maybe it took Mr. Bush four years to come clean about it, but he finally did.

If the United States withdraws its military forces from Iraq, or all of the Middle East, extremists and terrorists could then attempt to topple governments to “control oil resources.”

He’s clearly talking about Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Kuwait here.

(Bush is worried) “rival forms of extremists will battle for power…they will topple modern governments….they will be in a position to use oil as a tool to blackmail the West.”
If they control oil resources, then they pull oil off the market in order to run the price up, and they will do so unless we abandon Israel, for example, or unless we abandon allies.’”

“You couple that with a country that doesn’t like us with a nuclear weapon, and people will look back at this moment and say, ‘What happened to those people in 2006?’ and those are the stakes in this war we face.” (Source)

Admittedly, I -like many- was in fact skeptical about the whole “War for Oil” theories that floated around late 2003 in attempt to rationalize the invasion of Iraq. I took my personal view more towards the American aim of securing the stability of the region, and another attempt to surround Iran in hopes to eliminate any possible threats to Israel. But … I stand corrected..
Iraq war was fought for the control of the country’s oil resources, and the war needs to continue to make sure the oil stays out of the hands of “terrorists”.

While I believe it is for our own good that the States are backing us up in our fight against religious extremism and the ever growing emotional support their thoughts and fights are getting among the young Muslim youth today. It just feels sad to witness Mr. Bush’s comical dreams of a “New Middle East” that stands in support of the US vanish before my own eyes, at the cost of nothing other than the blood of many brave young American Soldiers, and the economical stability of the greatest nation on gods green earth today.

American Blogs, TV Shows and online forums I addictively visit still feature the ever so famous question of “Why they hate our freedom” and the usual ramblings of anti-islam crap that is widely spread, our people aren’t any better either…
Throughout the nights of Muharram –a religious month celebrated by Shiite Muslims- it is a usual yearly practice to draw the American flag on a big steel backed cardboard and drill it to the street; so that the passers will step on it as they walk, the calls of “Death to America” raise up at most religious gatherings, people all around me from MPs to taxi drivers all around the arab and muslim world see America as new colonial power, and bush as a blood thirsty demon  with hands stained by the blood of the innocent.
Very few Arab youngsters accept the American narrative that touts democracy and freedom, the “westernized” wave of thoughts, music and even food is slowly vanishing, nobody wants to live the “American Dream” anymore, they’d all grow beards in hope for the promised paradise.

The world is just too small, news of the pope’s speech, bush being guided by god, and the Danish cartoons, news like those only aid the ongoing flame within the young Arab youth, they grow surrounded by the news of deaths, terrors and wars. They all know about the horrors of Abu Ghraib, the pictures of the children of Lebanon being torn into pieces by the American bombs handed over to Israel, the online video clips of the Mujahideen showing them bombing humvee’s and executing the infidels chanting “Long Live Islam” and “Allahu Akbar”, sadly this is what they grow onto. And there is very little that can be done to change it.
Around six years ago, I giggled when BinLaden spoke of a clash of religions around the world. But the way things are going.. it’s really not far fetched, Bush once confirmed “This crusade, this war on terrorism is going to take a while.” when talking about the War on Afghanistan in early 2001.. Another one of his bushisms? I hope..

Alright, I don’t re-call how this article went along. I was supposed to talk about oil being the reason for the war, but it just drifted to something completely different.

Ah whatever, worth being posted though..

Well said sir. You summarized the tons of ideas that drift us around and highlighted the fears that we face and our children will face with the rise of extremism all over the world, being it bush and co. or religious fundamentalists.

Everyone knew the truth behind the war was going to come out; all it needed was some time, and pressure…and as the days went by and victims became mere statistics on the death toll, the truth came out.

Isn’t it sad.. that oil is both our blessing and our plight.. not that any of its money is going straight into our pockets.. but imagine how life would have been for us without oil and see how life is in our neighbouring countries, thanks to oil..

The biggest victimisers of Arabs are other Arabs. The Lebanese and Algerian civil wars, Saddam’s wars and genocidal killings, Iraqi on Iraqi violence, the mass slaughter of the civilians in Hama, Sudan, etc …

The Arabs are their own worse enemies, not the Pope, the Isrealis, Gorge Bush or Danish cartoonists.
