Saddam to Hang

Saddam Hussein has been convicted of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death by hanging. The former Iraqi leader was convicted over the killing of 148 people in the mainly Shia town of Dujail following an assassination attempt on him in 1982.As the judge began reading the death sentence Saddam Hussein shouted out “Allahu Akbar!” (God is Great) and “Long live Iraq! Long live the Iraqi people! Down with the traitors!”
The former leader looked shocked and furious as the sentence was passed, and continued to shout, denouncing the court, the judge and the US-led occupation force in Iraq. Via BBC
Is anyone else disturbed by this?
I have a set of complicated views towards the whole Iraq, Saddam and the entire setting of the political standings around the Middle East today. To start off, I am not anti death penalty for certain types of crimes, while it’s true that somewhere inside me I believe that capital punishment cannot be a collective act of revenge, but Saddam’s crimes fit into my safe zone for giving out such penalty.
And this is where things get complicated, the whole process of the trial and the means of execution is tainted. I don’t feel any sense of justice being done with the guy being hanged, but instead things seem to be drifting the opposite way, and it has nothing to do with his guilt.
If anything, he should have been turned over to an international court. The court he was tried under is a sham. It’s a U.S. puppet. This verdict and sentence is the result of George Bush’s 15 year long wet dream.
There is no way that the international community will see this as anything other than propaganda by murder. Sadam will be murdered for political gain. If there is a God…he has the list of victims. And George Bush’s list of victims is any shorter..

I see how things become complicated once we look into judgements regarding mass murder cases. Ofcourse, utilitarian punishment (community service, lock up, etc) is out of the options here, which leaves us with retributional punishment. And that later one is completely invalid in mass murder trials. If Saddam had taken away one life, then a retributional punishment “could” be to take away his (in one way or the other, by death or serving for life or so), but that doesn’t work when he’s taken away thousands of lives. We can’t have him serve more time than that of what’s left of his anyway, and we can’t possibly take away his life serveral times (unless Bush thinks of Saddam as a feline creature).
Hello Mr. Mohammed,
I am an Iranian blogger, though it’s been couple of months that I have not written.
Actually, I see an illusion here. People forget how Saddam killed everyone from every sect and ethnic and start hating the US and defending Saddam. In fact, defending Saddam is so offensive to Iranians, Kurds and other victims of Saddam like Kuwaitis and others. I don’t care how much Bush killed or caused to kill. It is not important whatsoever. The important thing is unfortunately people of the region especially Arabs are misused by both westerners and terrorists. Saddam was social Arabist. He had nothing to do with Islam! Now he is yelling “Allah o Akbar”, yes God is great for sure and punishes him very heavily for what he did to my family as an ordinary Iranian family and my fellow Iranians.
I don’t know if you agree that the matter of Saddam was not the Sunni Shitte or Arab non-Arab one. He and terrorists are misusing people of the region.
Please take this into the consideration and think about it for a minute. I don’t think defending a monster based on hating a shark is something that makes sense. What these terrorist mother fuckers are doing with Islam and Muslims across the world is hundreds of times worse that what western extremists are doing.
